Plot: The story unfurls in a small town called Almore in UP. Ishaqzaade depicts the love story of two defiant, rebellious individuals. A passionate love story ignited by extreme dislike. The Chauhans & the Qureshi's are two Political families whose rivalry & shared hatred for one another goes back generations.

Parma (Arjun Kapoor) is a good for nothing - local enforcer - grandson to the Patriarch Chauvanist Grandfather Chauhan who often takes digs at Parma for being useless & the son of a his deceased son's widow - whom he considers a bad omen. Zoya (Parineeti Chopra) is the trigger happy, hot tempered, much loved only daughter in a house full of men / brothers who are fiercely protective of her.

When the local elections take place the full scale Political rivalry ignites between the 2 clans who will stop at nothing to demean & oust one another. Parma & Zoya meet in the politically rife circumstances where there personal canvassing efforts lead to a clash between them. While Parma is enamored by her beauty & fearlessness - she is intrigued by his goofy & raw charm. He pursues her & they elope together. After having intercourse Parma reveals to Zoya that he tricked her into marrying him & that he defiled her to take revenge against her clan & the humiliation she caused him by slapping him in an earlier scene when he misbehaves with her.

Zoya is left heartbroken & devastated as Parma joins his family in a lewd celebration of his becoming a man. Zoya infiltrates his home to shoot Parma but is intercepted by his mother who urges her to calm down & talk the matter out. Parma insists on throwing her out & in the heat of the moment, Grandfather Chauhan shoots Parma's mother when she tries to defend her son & Zoya from the bloodhungry families.

Parma & Zoya go on the run & take refuge in a brothel where Zoya learns to forgive Parma & he fulfills his mothers dying wish of taking responsibility for his actions & to be a man & take care of his wife. This gives their love a second lease of life.

Zoya decides to try & reconcile with her family & takes Parma with her to win over her dad but instead both of them are met with hostility & gunshots which culminates into a chase in an abandoned school building. Both the rival families having decided that their marriage is a stab to their respective religious communities & political careers decide to kill them off by joining forces.

Parma & Zoya give chase to the goons & finally take refuge on the terrace - soon realise that they are in fact outnumbered. Zoya asks Parma to shoot her so that their love can win & that they rather die together in each other's arms than being riddled with bullets by their families. The movie ends with the goons checking if they are dead & Parma & Zoya's bodies lying amidst the rubble on the terrace.
